If you’re here to learn the basics of installing UPVC cladding then it can also be beneficial to find out more about the material itself. We’ll briefly cover this before providing a thorough guide on installing this type of cladding.
UPVC cladding is a fully weatherproof type of interior or exterior wall covering or siding which is surprisingly simple to install. Typically cheaper than wood or aluminium cladding, UPVC cladding is both durable and requires little to no maintenance aside from the occasional wipe down. It offers UV and moisture protection along with a degree of thermal insulation.
As mentioned above, this is an incredibly simple product to install. Here’s our seven step guide to guide you through the process:
1. The first step is to cut some wooden batten boards to size to and screw them horizontally across the bottom of the surface you are covering.
2. Once this is done, screw wooden batten boards, separated by a two foot gap, vertically to the top of surface. Cut them to leave a two inch gap at the top which is sufficient for another horizontal row of batten boards to be fitted.
3. Along the top of the surface, screw horizontal batten boards into the space you have left.
4. You then need to cut the UPVC to size. Use a jigsaw to cut first and subsequent rows of cladding to fit the horizontal surface.
5. Nail the flange, supplied along with the UPVC cladding, to the bottom batten boards using the nailing area which has been designated.
6. Move the next row of cladding into place, ensuring it overlaps the area where the nails were placed in the first row of cladding. Nail this to the batten boards in the same way as before, ensuring the next row can cover the nailing area. Continue this technique until all the cladding is fitted.
7. The final step is to nail the supplied flange to the top of the horizontal batten boards. Once you have, cut the horizontal trim to fit and hang it along the flange. This will cover the nailing area on the final row of cladding.
