Conservatories are wonderful things. They can add a whole new dimension to your garden and create much-needed space in the family home. Another benefit of them is that they can often add value to your home, but only if they are well maintained and looked after.

One of the best ways to keep the value of your home high and stop your conservatory from slowly falling apart is to protect it. Here are some ways to maintain and protect this lovely glass room:

Keep it Clean

This may sound very obvious, but simply by keeping your conservatory clean you can drastically extend its life and keeps it looking better for longer. If you leave stains or smears on the window or window frame, it can become baked on by the sun and make it very hard to clean. In some cases this can cause discolouration in the PVC frames or even the window panes themselves. Regular cleaning can drastically improve the look of your conservatory, letting you enjoy it in all its glory.

Clear Away Plants

If your garden has lots of shrubs and trees in it then it is important that you keep these away from the conservatory as they can discolour the windows and cause the staining that was talked about in the above point. Any vines will also need to be removed from the external walls as they can create cracks in the brickwork and damage the seals on the windows causing leaks and foggy window panes.

Make sure that you cut back any overhanging tree branches and restrict the growth of particularly tall trees near the conservatory. These are particular hazards, especially in areas that see strong winds and heavy snow or rain, as the branches or trees can fall, damaging the structure.

Keep It Ventilated

Making sure that the conservatory is well ventilated is essential in preventing condensation, which can turn to damp in the long run. There are several ways you can ensure that you are ventilating the area for example: Open all the windows and doors on pleasant days and keep trickle vents, in the ridge, and the roof vent open at all times. During cold weather it is important that you maintain heating in the conservatory otherwise there could be a large build-up of condensation.

Replace Window Seals

Sometimes the window seals will break down, this could be due to age or a large change in temperatures. Regardless of the fault that caused the deterioration in the window seals, regularly checking and replacing them will help to keep water and other biological agents out of your conservatory and keep it looking and working great for a long time.
