When dabbling in DIY there is generally, a basic list of tools that are used in conjunction with each other, to produce the best results, but when more specialist jobs need to be undertaken, a lot of the tools that you will need, also become more specialist. Some of the more unique tools can’t very often be found in basic DIY shops, so you may need to broaden your horizons.
Below we have put a list of the more unusual tools that we supply on our website.
PADDLE ROLLER – This tool is a must, when attempting to produce a well presented fibre glass roof. When your matting has been placed down in conjunction with your resin, the paddle roller is then used to remove any air bubbles that are still visible, and it also helps the resin to completely soak into the matting. In doing this it gives a much better, more professional finish to your roof, and also helps to prolong its life.
CATALYST DISPENSER – A lot of people when attempting to lay a fiberglass roof tend to guess the amount of catalyst that they into their resin or topcoat. This is not advisable, as if the wrong quantity of catalyst is added the resin or topcoat might not ‘go off’ or might go off to quickly. By using a catalyst dispenser you can ensure that the correct recommended amount is used, and therefore a better standard end product is produced.
TREACLE COCK – Mainly used when working with fibreglass on a large scale. This is a device that will act as a locking system on a 220kg barrel, allowing you to open and close it at any time, and it will also enable you to pour out the contents of the barrel. Things are kept a lot cleaner when a treacle cock is used, which is very handy when working with large quantities.
CATALYST SYRINGE – Basically this is used in exactly the same way as a catalyst dispenser would be, to make sure that the correct amount of catalyst is added to your resin or topcoat. Some people prefer to use a syringe rather than a dispenser, but they do the same basic job.
