Cost of a Bathroom Remodel

Renovating your house can be an extremely expensive process, but there are certain things that can be done to cut costs without hindering your overall finish.

One of the biggest cost saving approaches is to take on all the work yourself. Alternatively, you could take to the internet to find the materials you need at a much lower price than you may find at a local building merchants.

How much does a bathroom remodel cost?

Knowing the average cost of the tasks you’re looking to take on is important for setting a budget and ensuring you get the best value. To give you a rough idea of how much an average bathroom remodelling costs here’s our rough guide:

Tiling tiling a bathroom

More often than not, it is your bathroom’s tiling that makes it feel dated, worn or ugly. There are many things that will impact the cost of tiling a bathroom, including the price of tiles, size of the room and cost of any labour.

For a medium sized bathroom (10’x10’) expect to pay £600-£1,200 for the entire job, which is likely to take an experienced decorator 2-4 days. A cheaper alternative to this would be wall panels, as the cost for materials is less and they are much quicker to install – saving on labour costs.

Bathbathroom

While you can get bath units relatively cheap - £70 – the average cost for a new bath is around £400. If you want something a bit more ‘top range’ then you could easily pay £1,000 for a designer label bath. The average cost of having a new bath installed in the same position as the old one is roughly £175 but could go up to £250.

Toilet toilet with 2 sinks

An essential, but surprisingly one of the cheapest items to replace in a bathroom remodelling. A new toilet can be bought for as little as £60 but the average costs for this unit tends to be around the £150-£300 mark. If you’re having a professional fit the new toilet then you can expect to pay around £100 for their services.

Showers shower

Electric showers are the best low cost option, followed by bath/shower mixers – both of which can be picked up at around the £50 mark, upwards. Thermostatic mixers are more expensive – typically starting at around £150 – and power showers will set you back the most, with basic models costing around £225.

Additionally, a new shower surround and basin will cost you anything from £200 - £600 depending on the model you go for. Having this all professionally installed will cost around £250-500, although it will be more if you are changing the layout or type of shower system you’re using.

Overall Cost

The total cost of remodelling a bathroom based on the budget end of these figures is just £1,500. A large chunk of this sum is taken up with paying professionals to do the work – if you’re able to take on the task yourself then you could potentially remodel for even less.

If you were planning on remodelling with more expensive units and factoring in a potentially higher labour cost, then this figure more than doubles to being £3,800. This figure could increase even more with the addition of top of the line power showers and luxury baths. One way of reducing costs if you’re taking the high end approach is to use UPVC wall panelling – offering the designer look you want with a much more affordable price tag.
