When doing up our homes most people focus on the areas visitors are likely to see such as the living room and kitchen. Sadly the upstairs bathroom then becomes neglected as a room that only the residents see and ‘deal with’. Well not anymore!
Take a look at our list of handy tips to help your family bathroom on the road to fabulous. It doesn’t have to cost a lot!
The Bathroom Suite
If your bath is discoloured and your tiles are looking a bit tired then give them a spruce up with a lick of paint. No we’re not suggesting you whip out the varnish or the emulsion – you can get specific tile or enamel paint in order to resurface your bathroom fittings.
These paints are often one coat only and no primer is required. They are tough and durable and will show no brush marks. Your bathroom will look like brand new all over again and save you a fortune, putting off a replacement suite for maybe even years.
The Walls
If you have black mould growing on your grout and are fed up of scrubbing water marks off your tiles then give your bathroom a makeover with the modern alternative to tiles – UPVC bathroom cladding.
But what is UPVC Bathroom Cladding? UPVC bathroom cladding is hollow plastic wall panelling that is extremely light and easy to install even if you are not a master contractor thanks to its tongue and groove design. UPVC bathroom cladding will cover unsightly walls and provide a modern and affordable alternative to tiles or marble.
These boards are popular in bathrooms and shower rooms as they are 100% waterproof. And with a number of different colours and finishes there is cladding for every taste and style. Plus they are extremely low maintenance so you rarely have to clean them – UPVC bathroom cladding is non-porous, hygienic and mould free!
These panels are 10mm thick and have a number of different trims in white or silver so you can match them to your shower or bath unit. No grouting is required so there is no chance of leaks or discolouring.
Accessories
Often it is the little touches that make a big difference. If you have a very white and almost clinical bathroom introduce a pop of colour with some new brightly coloured and fluffy towels displayed proudly on a shelf or radiator.
Replace the gunky soap dish and toothbrush holder for brand new ones and you could even purchase a snazzy toilet brush holder. These don’t have to cost much – you could even pick them up in your local supermarket or pound shop.
If you have a shower curtain it is important to replace this every 6 months or so as the damp conditions make these barriers the perfect breeding ground for mould. Opt for a brightly coloured curtain to match your new towels maybe.
